WEBSITE GENERAL » What's this site all about? BACK TO TOP Radio Rewind remembers the sounds of Radio 1 and Radio 2 with a nostalgic look at the history of the stations, it's people, sounds, shows and highlights from inception in 1967 right up to the 21st Century. It is an unofficial site and not connected with the BBC; for information about official sites, please see this notice » Who made it and when? BACK TO TOP
The website is researched, designed and compiled by Alan Davies of Merthyr Tydfil, U.K. Launched in Nov 1999 as a one page BT internet customer site, it now contains 154 pages and over 1,400 sound files on-line, with an average 42,000 hits per day. The site would not have been possible without the many kind contributions from other historic Radio 1 supporters. » What plans do you have for the site in the future? BACK TO TOP More people pages and audio, especially from the 1960's/early 1970's period. » Can I link to Radio Rewind? BACK TO TOP Links to the index or other pages are most welcome, provided your site does not contain illegal, adult or otherwise offensive material. However direct file 'hotlinking' and content copying is prohibited. INTERACTIVE » How do I place a message on the Your View or Notice Board pages? BACK TO TOP Please email but STATE CLEARLY that you wish your text, name and e-mail address to be placed on either the Your View or Notice Board page, as appropriate. Either an email address or town/county of residence must be provided in order to display a view (both is better.) » Why haven't you replied to my email yet? BACK TO TOP Radio Rewind is a 'hobby' website, which is worked on during my spare time. Unfortunately sometimes I just don't have enough time, but I do aim to reply within 7 days. MATERIAL/ INFORMATION REQUESTS » I would love to hear more of an archive show/DJ; where can I find a recording? BACK TO TOP I would first recommend the Radio Rewind Notice Board. If no luck there, the following is a selection of aircheck traders sites, run by enthusiasts who collect radio broadcast recordings often from around the globe. Mike's Radio Webpage, John Walton, Aircheck Factory (USA site). Check their listings, you May be lucky. Note that these sites are not connected with Radio Rewind. » Can you provide me with contact details for a DJ? BACK TO TOP I do not provide contact details for any persons, or forward any messages to them. You May, however submit your request and email address via email for inclusion on the site's Notice Board. » I would like my favourite DJ on the people list BACK TO TOP The listing is only a selection; many more people will be added over the coming months and years, as time allows. » Do you have old playlists from a particular show? BACK TO TOP Radio Rewind does not have access to archive playlists. » Can I have a full copy of a theme tune? BACK TO TOP The tunes featured are low quality one minute sample clips only. I do not supply full copies at higher quality. » Where can I find out more about the history of Radio 1? BACK TO TOP You could try the publications shown as bibliography on the Thanks page. You May find more sources in archive national press. AUDIO/PICTURES » Why can't I hear the mp3 files when I click on a link? BACK TO TOP Please check Audio Help Page in case of difficulty downloading. You will need a username and password. Please choose a password to register. Then you will be able to login. Unlike other websites, there is no charge for registering or downloading. The first time you use the system, you will have to log in to the network twice. Please select 'remember my password' on the browser window to help you download the sounds next time. Please note most users have no problem downloading the Radio Rewind sound files so it is most unlikely that a problem encountered is due to a fault with the Radio Rewind site. » Why are many of the sounds at a low quality/bitrate? BACK TO TOP Radio 1 was broadcast on AM for most of the time until 1988, which of course is lower quality. The lower bitrate is necessary, especially on longer recordings, to save on server bandwidth and disc space costs. Additionally, it is taken into account that many users have only a 56kbps dial-up modem. » Why do you have a message saying you can't accept audio or photographic material? BACK TO TOP Many people have kindly provided these in the past, and at the moment I am still working through these. When the work is complete, the message will be removed so if you have some archive material, keep checking, I May be glad of specific audio (especially 1960s/70s) in the future. » Can I send you my old cassettes? BACK TO TOP Unfortunately due to space and time restrictions it is not always possible to accept recordings (see also above). If in doubt, please email. |
