Kevin's first job was as a
construction worker on the Humber Bridge. He gained a BA in Chemical
Engineering from Cambridge University, following which he trained as a
Studio Manager and started his broadcasting career at the BBC World
Service. He spent 2 years on local radio before moving to GLR as a
producer in 1989. In 1991 Kevin presented the GLR Breakfast Show and in
1993 moved to Virgin 1215 hosting the afternoon show.
In 1994 Kevin joined
Radio 1 to
present the weekend breakfast show. This show included regular
characters brought with him from his Virgin days; Eric the Gardener with his dog
Gripper and Raymond Sinclair - bringing new life and vitality to weekend radio. These
were recorded by Andrew McGibbon who is sometimes heard on Radio
4 - and from time to time on Steve Wright's Radio 2 show.
Kevin also fronted several R1 programmes, including 90 From The
90?s, Radio 1?s Top 100 and Easy Night - a programme of easy
Kevin moved to the
slot in February 1997. His show included regular features such as
the Joke du Jour, 60 Second Cinema, and the Evening Procession. He loves
motorbikes, owns two and speaks both French and German.
Kevin co-presented the
breakfast show with Zoe Ball from October 1997 for 12 months, then moved to
a Sunday morning show.
On 16 January 2000, Kevin presented
his last Radio 1 show - in the last half hour, he played some of the
hilarious sketches from his time at Radio One.
He moved on to Radio 5
Live, was heard on both London's XFM and
Jazz 102.2 from
June 2002, renamed Smooth in May
2005. Join Kevin between 10am and 2pm every day except
Saturday on London's 102.2 Smooth FM.
Sadly Kevin Greening
died in his sleep on Saturday December 29th 2007, the day before
his 45th birthday.
