Sara Cox

 » Sara Cox

Sara was born in Bolton in 1974. After leaving school, she pursued a career in modelling and later worked on C4's Girlie Show (1994) and Big Breakfast (1999) and MTV shows.

Sara joined Radio 1 in September 1999 to co-present the Saturday lunchtime show alongside Emma B, and launched the 'Sunday Surgery' a programme dealing with listeners' problems with Dr Mark Hamilton.

Her first Breakfast Show was on Friday 31 March 2000, taking over from her best friend, Zoe Ball.

Many people spell her name incorrectly as 'Sarah Cox', but of course the correct spelling is Sara.

Sarah presented One Big Sunday events from around the country.

In Feb 2002, a shocked Sara apologised on-air on behalf of 'Ali G' (character played by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen) after he turned the air blue during a 45 minute morning broadcast.

Her morning show included features 'Cox's Big Ones' as well as special spots for UK Truck drivers.

She commenced her drivetime timeslot 3pm-5.45 on 5th January 2004. The show included an exclusive featured live music  recording session 'Live at Five'. She moved to the 1pm-4pm Saturday & Sunday slot in March 2005.
